OAALJ BOARD MEETING MINUTES
January 27, 2001
Present: Charlotte Rutherford; Steve Rissberger;
Lynne Wehrlie; Jane Clink; Daina Upite; Abby Herman; Monica
Smith; and Cathy Coburn.
Excused: Dee Anna Hassenpour; Alan McCullough.
Bruce Black was designated temporary secretary.
Steve Rissberger was elected President of OAALJ.
Retiring President Charlotte Rutherford was
presented with a distinguished service for her service as
President of the organization in 1999 and 2000.
There was a discussion of other offices. Bruce
agreed to serve as Vice President for the ensuing year. Daina
agreed to remain Treasurer for the time being. Other offices were
not filled pending the filling of the remaining Board vacancies.
(Rutherford and Herman were attending their last meeting; Lynne
and Daina will hold over until replaced.)
Two nominees for the Board were announced by
Steve: Cathy Coburn and Monica Smith. It was agreed that mail
ballots would be sent to he membership to confirm their accession
to the Board.
A free-wheeling discussion was had over several
topics: the annual scholarship, which Charlotte thought might
well be to a NAALJ training session in lieu of the NJC (Texas and
Knetucky venues for this were next up); the problem of
non-renewing members and whether the association's $50 annual
dues were too high, and how the organization is doing in general;
questions about problems of reclassification, and where the
struggle over the model rules stands at the moment. Bruce stated
that he would shepherd the newsletter through another year and
was planning for a March 1 edition with material that was not
included in the most recent issue and the Koskela decision
for starters. Daina offered to do an article on the model rules,
Steve on questions of reclassification.
Meeting was adjourned to February 24 (Saturday)
at Chili's Restaurant in Wilsonville at 11:00am
