BOARD MEETING MINUTES
May 10, 2000
Present: Steve Rissberger, Monica Smith, Dee-Anna Hassenpour, Bruce Black, Cathy Coburn, and Daina Upite
The April 4, 2001, minutes were approved.
Dee-Anna gave the Treasurer's report.
There is $1,988.16 in our money market account. There is $226.83 in the checking account, and $7,423.26 in the CD account. These figures are all as of March 30, 2001.
Report on First Friday luncheons in Salem and Portland. Both went well and are planned again for June 1st, 2001.
The Portland folks will meet at Tony Romas near the convention center and the Salem folks will meet at Newport Bay on Market Street. Once we have more attendees and on a regular basis, we can discuss adding speakers to these events. Monica will send email to Tom Ewing to get word out to other/more ALJs on these events.
Discussed Bruce needing assistance with the newsletter. Cathy graciously volunteered to be his assistant editor. Dee-Anna will provide Bruce with an extra book she has on using the WORD program on the computer. Dee-Anna will also check with Bill Young on options/programs available to us for formatting the newsletter into two columns per page. Steve will check with Beth (our current support person) to see if she can help with formatting.
Decided to put out a second short newsletter on June 5th to get Steve's article on a tiered ALJ system out, since it was inadvertently left out of the last publication. We want this published before the ED classification wraps up and before the all ALJ training on 6/8/01. Discussed some other articles to include like one about Claudia Burton's new job and one about the Smothers decision. Cathy suggested an interview of Marilyn O'dell and Daina will assist her with that.
Annual meeting normally takes place in November and we decided to hold it in October with a speaker like Judge Schuman or Wollheim. Steve will check bylaws to see if they need amendment before changing the date of the annual meeting.
Dee-Anna brought up obtaining a new web domain site for OAALJ costing $15 more a month but with more email boxes and an easier (more user friendly) website address. A vote was taken and all approved of this change.
Thank you note read from Diane at Willamette Law School for gift certificate we gave her. Cathy mentioned asking her for names of good future potential speakers. Steve will follow up on this with Diane.
Discussed UPS request to be a corporate member. Discussed mailing costs for newsletter.
