OREGON ASSOCIATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE LAW JUDGES
BOARD MEETING MINUTES
June 13, 2001

Present: Steve Rissberger, Monica Smith, Dee Anna Hassenpour, Bruce Black, Cathy Coburn, Daina Upite, Jane Clink, David Marcus, Steffani Cochran, Charlotte Rutherford

The May 10, 2001, minutes were approved.

Dee Anna gave the Treasurer’s report.

There is $2,991.92 in our money market account. There is $661.63 in the checking account, and $7,528.23 in the CD account. This produces a grand a total of $11,181.78.

Report on first Friday luncheons in Salem and Portland. Both went well and are planned again for July 6th, 2001. The Portland folks will meet at Tony Roma's near the convention center and the Salem folks will meet at Newport Bay on Market Street. Monica will continue to send an email to Tom Ewing about a week in advance to get word out to more alj’s on these events. The Portland group increased by four compared to first lunch meeting. Tom plans to alternate between the two locations each month.

Discussed planning the next annual meeting to be held in mid-October. A sub-committee of Daina (chair), Dee Anna and Jane was formed to begin this process. Potential speakers brought forward were Sue Leeson, Michael Asimow, new deputy AG Pete Shepard, and two from last meeting Wolheim and David Schuman.

Newsletter still needs work on formatting into two columns. Cathy and Dee Anna will work together on the formats in WORD to see if they can master this.

Our current clerical worker, Beth, is retiring. Inquired if any members knew someone to fill her shoes. Bruce mentioned a former co-worker who works and lives in Marion County.

NAALJ plans to increase its dues significantly and wanted some input from us, which was provided. NAALJ lost money at 1999 North Carolina conference. It costs them $44.25 to mail the two journals and two newsletters per year. The Board thought $35 would be maximum because at $50 would lose members. Discussion ensued on various alternatives and options like breaking away from National organization and lowering postage by providing the same information via the internet.

David Marcus submitted a resolution regarding the independence of ALJ’s. Discussion ensued and it was decided to create a fact finding subcommittee to gather more information from affected ALJ’s and Tom. The subcommittee is made up of Steve Rissberger, Bruce Black and David Marcus. They will report back at next meeting on a position the board should take on David’s resolution.

Meeting adjourned to August 1, 2001 at Holiday Inn in Wilsonville, Oregon at 6:00 p.m.
