BOARD MEETING
August 1, 2001

Present: Steve Rissberger, Monica Smith, Bruce Black, Cathy Coburn, Daina Upite, Jane Clink, David Marcus

The June 13, 2001, minutes were approved.

No Treasurer’s report was available.

Subcommittee regarding the independence of ALJ’s has still not yet met with Thomas Ewing. They plan to meet with him before our next meeting.

Discussed the next annual meeting to be held in fall. Daina (chair) of subcommittee reported on possible sites and the corresponding costs.

The Board authorized Daina to spend up to $500 for the annual meeting for the site and any refreshments. With regard to potential speakers we will check with Michael Asimow, UCLA Law Professor or Art Wong Chief ALJ in Washington or Mr. Hardwick, Chief ALJ in Maryland and others. The theme will be judicial independence of ALJ’s.

Daina reminded us to be thinking about potential board members. Cathy and Steve agreed to check with Paul Vincent. Daina will call Allison Webster and Kevin Anselm.

Board approved $12 an hour for Rohini Latta to update our mailing list.

We will decide at a subsequent meeting on permanent replacement since Bruce knows of a another possibility. We will ask for proposals from both of them.

Newsletter needs to go out before annual meeting.

Possible dates for annual meeting are Oct. 11, 18 or 25.

Discussed ideas for newsletter. Someone suggested asking Shetterly about a legislative update article. Daina will do an annual meeting announcement and discuss speaker background. Articles must be submitted by 9-7-01 to Bruce.

Meeting adjourned to August 29, 2001 at Holiday Inn in Wilsonville, Oregon at 6:00pm.
