On April 12, 2003, the OAALJ lost one of its most dedicated members. Bruce Black served the State of Oregon as an Administrative Law Judge for more than 25 years before his untimely death. Bruce was a founding member of the OAALJ in 1977 and was serving on the OAALJ board at the time of his sudden passing. He made significant contributions to the development of OAALJ throughout his career. A past president and vice president of OAALJ, Bruce died suddenly while jogging. We will miss his dedication, professionalism, and good humor.

In Bruce's memory, OAALJ annually presents the Bruce Black Award to a member of the administrative law community who personifies the ideals and professionalism Bruce demonstrated.

Nominations for this year's Bruce Black Award should be sent to OAALJ, PO Box 3626, Salem, Oregon 97302.  for consideration, or via email to BruceBlackAward@OAALJ.org Nominations must be received by August 31st of each year for consideration.
